(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Police Department is investigating a number of loud bangs in the area of the 700 block of Pearl Street.
Lt. Matt Myers, the city's public information spokesman, says the department began receiving calls Saturday night and every evening since regarding the noises.
On Monday night, an officer was in the area of Pearl Street when he heard what sounded like a loud firecracker. He investigated and found a woman sitting in a vehicle who witnessed the incident.
According to the witness, someone in a light colored, Pontiac Sunfire or Chevy Cavalier-type vehicle, threw an object from the vehicle. That object landed near the witness' vehicle and exploded, causing minor damage.
Myers says evidence was collected at the scene and that a search for the vehicle is underway. The witness was not injured.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call Columbus Police Det. Tom Foust at 376-2642.
