(ANDERSON) - Police say a race driver faces drunken driving and other charges after intentionally crashing into another car on a central Indiana track.
Officers reported arresting 49-year-old Tommy Lathan after the crash during an Anderson Speedway race Saturday night. Anderson police spokesman Joel Sandefur tells The Herald Bulletin that race organizers had ordered Lathan out of the race, but he drove back onto the track and intentionally crashed with another driver.
Sandefur says neither driver was hurt. Sandefur says officers smelled alcohol on Lathan's breath and several witnesses said they had seen Lathan drinking alcoholic beverages.
He says results of a blood test on Lathan weren't immediately available.
Lathan was jailed on charges of drunken driving, criminal recklessness and intimidation. Jail records didn't list a defense attorney.
