(CRAWFORDSVILLE) - Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested 55 people at the 19th Annual AMSOIL Ironman Grand National Cross Country off-track motocross race in Crawfordsville this weekend.
On Friday, excise officers arrested 20 people on 23 charges. Sixteen minors were charged with illegal possession or consumption of alcohol. Two people were arrested for possession of marijuana and one for possession of drug paraphernalia. Two adults were also arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Andrew P. Donovan, 20, of Franklin, Ind., was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of illegal consumption of alcohol and false informing.
On Saturday, excise officers arrested 35 people on 37 charges. Twenty-eight minors were charged with illegal possession or consumption of alcohol. One of them was also charged with false informing. Seven juveniles were cited for possession of tobacco and one adult was cited for furnishing tobacco to a juvenile.
This weekend's AMSOIL Ironman Grand National Cross Country motocross event features four-wheel ATV races, four-wheel UTV (two seat, side-by-side ATVs with roll cages) and motorcycles. The course covers several acres of flat land, natural hills and man-made hills in open fields and wooded areas. Each race for the respective categories of vehicles lasts 1 ½ to 2 hours. More than 10,000 spectators attended over the weekend.
Excise police officers were assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
