Last updated on Friday, October 4, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man has been convicted of murder in the August 2012 shooting death of a 13-year-old boy.

After five hours of deliberation on Wednesday, a jury found Glenn Beard, 57, guilty of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 13-year-old Jarrell Tucker and another boy tried to rob Beard's brother outside Beard's home in the 100 block of North Denny Street.

Beard came to his brother's aid, punching Tucker in the face several times, and the boys ran off, witnesses told police.

But moments later, the boys came back to the house and confronted Beard, who then chased Tucker into the alley and shot him in the head, according to the probable cause. Beard was seen speeding away from the scene a short time later, witnesses told police.

Tucker was found lying in alley with gunshot wounds to his head and thigh. He was taken to Riley Hospital for Children where he later died.

Beard's sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 25.
