Serial Killer Trial Underway In New Albany

(NEW ALBANY) - Opening statements began Monday as the trial for an accused serial killer began in Floyd County.

William Clyde Gibson is accused of killing three women over the past 10 years and the first of three trials is set to begin.

During this first trial Gibson is facing charges related to the death of his mother's best friend, Christine Whitis.

Due to high-profile nature of the murders, a jury was selected in Dearborn County, which is near Cincinnati.

Whitis was found in the garage of Gibson's New Albany home in April 2012. Police said she was sexually abused.

Gibson is also accused of killing Stephanie Kirk and Karen Hodella. He will be tried separately for all three murders.
