(ARCADIA) - After more than 7 hours, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Indiana State Police peacefully resolved a standoff situation in Arcadia, IN.
Deputies initially responded about 9:30 p.m. Saturday to a possible suicidal subject report by the ex-wife of Roland Mobley, age 43, of Arcadia. The suicide report, however, was determined to be unsubstantiated.
Mobley's former wife, whom he had divorced almost 15 years ago, claimed Mobley contact her, saying that he was bleeding out and giving her other indications that he was suicidal.
When Sheriff's Deputies were able to locate him in the basement of his parents' home near Main Street and State Road 19, Mobley threatened to harm the deputies as well as himself.
The officers were unable to check Mobley's condition or if he harmed himself as he reportedly had several firearms and told the officers he would kill them. There was a concern that Mobley might harm himself or others when he refused to allow officers to check his welfare.
Mobley's parents, who were upstairs, refused to leave the house but were not considered hostages.
Negotiators were called to the scene and spoke with Mobley in an attempt to convince him to come out of the house. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team was also called to standby.
During the standoff, Mobley contacted Eyewitness News and told staff that he was not going to come out of his house because he does not like police.
He indicated that he wasn't sure why police were called to his home and did not understand why they would not leave.
At one point, Mobley could be seen through windows of the house walking around with what were thought to be a shotgun and handgun.
After speaking with Mobley and his mother, negotiators were able to determine that Mobley was not suicidal and had not harmed himself.
Friends of Mobley also made contact with him and verified that he had not hurt himself or anyone else.
A decision was made to end the situation rather than attempt to force a confrontation since the original possible suicide was unfounded.
Information from the incident will be forwarded to the Hamilton County Prosecutor for a review.
