(LAWRENCE) - A Lawrence teen died early Thursday morning after he was hit by a train on the city’s east side.
Jacob Shoemaker, 18, was killed instantly just before 2:30 a.m. on the tracks near East 47th and McCoy streets.
According to a police report, the train conductor told police the train was moving east toward North Post Road on the south track when he saw Shoemaker walking. The conductor says he sounded the horn. Shoemaker raised his fists and kept walking. The conductor tried to use the train's brakes in an effort to stop the train from hitting the man but the train did not stop in time.
Police found Shoemaker lying on the tracks behind Lawrence Park. He was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead.
