(TERRE HAUTE) - Terre Haute Police Department now has a MRAP.
This is an armored vehicle that can withstand many different types of attacks.
The department required the vehicle through the Law Enforcement Support Program.
This program allows law enforcement agencies access to military equipment when there is need.
Officials say its nice to know they have things to rely upon in a time of need.
"So we just use it in a different variety of things we need. It's not like we're trying to militarize the police department, but there are some occasions where you need that kind of equipment. I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it," Chief John Plasse said.
