(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Two Purdue University football players face theft charges after police said they were caught shoplifting Monday evening.
Officials with the Lafayette Police Department were called to the Kohl's department store in the Tippecanoe Mall at 5:30 p.m.
Benjamin Joseph Knauf and Jordan Jeffery Woods were both detained by loss prevention officers in connection with theft by shoplifting, police said.
Police determined that probable cause existed and arrested both suspects.
The items the two men tried to steal were two tie bars which were valued at $20 each. The items were recovered by loss prevention officers before police arrived.
Both suspects were taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Knauf has nearly 150 yards of offense and two touchdowns for the Boilermakers so far in the current season.
