(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police were searching for a gunman Wednesday morning near Interstate 465 and Pendleton Pike on the city’s northeast side.
RTV6 reports, investigators said the gunman was suspected in a robbery involving a man, woman and 5-year-old boy at an apartment near 16th Street and Franklin Road.
Police said about 7 a.m., a gunman slipped into the woman's apartment when her boyfriend went out to warm up the car.
The gunman then forced the woman and her child to get into the car with her boyfriend. Police said the gunman told the woman's boyfriend to drive to the ATM. Moments later at a traffic light, the car pulled up alongside a Lawrence police officer. The woman jumped out of the car and began beating on the officer's window to get his attention. It was at that point that the gunman jumped out of the car and ran away, police said.
Police were searching the area of I-465 and Pendleton Pike for the suspect, but had few leads because he was wearing a ski mask.
The family was not harmed in the incident.
