(INDIANAPOLIS) - One teen was killed and another teen was injured after a police chase early Monday that ended with a car crashing into a firehouse on the city’s north side.
Dispatchers said the chase started in Hendricks County and ended at 56th and Knollton Road about 5 a.m.
Detectives said the teens were at a rehabilitation facility in Bloomington, Ill., and the car they were driving was stolen from that area on Sunday.
The chase started when an officer made a traffic stop for the car's broken license plate light.
When the officer walked up to the car, the driver sped off, investigators said.
The car lost control and crashed into a firehouse, throwing the driver from the car, police said. Both teens were rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital where the passenger later died.
The driver was remained hospitalized and would likely face charges, police said.
Kessler Blvd. was closed near Michigan Road when a gas leak was reported in the area near the scene of the crash.
The victims' names were not released.
