(ELKHART) - A pursuit that took Elkhart officers into Michigan and back Sunday night ended with a fatal shooting, police said.
At approximately 8 p.m., Elkhart police officers attempted to stop a blue and gray 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck for a traffic violation .
Officers said they became aware the vehicle had been reported stolen while running the plates.
Police said the driver of the truck refused to stop, instead leading unites from several departments on a chase that lasted more than 40 minutes. The pursuit took officers into Michigan before returning to Elkhart, where police ultimately shot the driver behind a house in the area of 4th and Marion streets.
The suspect died as a result of the shooting, police said.
No officers were injured in the shooting, and no other injuries have been reported.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
