(MORGAN CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a tree stand accident involving 59-year-old Ray Winnett, of Brazil.
Winnett was coming down out of his tree stand after hunting on private property near Greencastle Rd in northern Morgan County. As he worked his way down the tree, the upper portion of his climber tree stand slipped, causing him to fall backwards.
Winnett's feet were still connected to the lower foot platform, so instead of falling to the ground, he was left dangling approximately 25 feet off the ground. He was not wearing a safety harness.
Winnett was able to make contact with his stepson, who then called 911.
The Hendrick's County Rope Rescue Team was able to lower Winnett to the ground.
He was upside down from his stand for approximately 45 minutes.
He was treated for minor back pain and released at the scene. The accident is currently being investigated by Indiana Conservation Officer Lance LaBonte.
