(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus couple has been arrested on warrants related to allegedly smuggling drugs into the Bartholomew County Jail.
Maj. Todd Noblitt, with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office, says 33-year-old Joseph W. Reed, who is an inmate at the Bartholomew County Jail, and his wife, 31-year-old Carrie H. Reed, are both charged with attempted dealing in a schedule III controlled substance and attempted trafficking with an inmate.
Noblitt says back In October, Bartholomew County correctional officers intercepted suspicious mail for jail inmate Joseph Reed. After seizing the envelope officers provided the information to the sheriff's office Narcotics Division and a criminal investigation was launched.
The investigation revealed that Carrie Reed made arrangements with her husband to smuggle Suboxone, a schedule III controlled substance to him through the mail.
Suboxone is a drug often used to treat narcotic additions. However, when misused, Suboxone can result in serious injury, including death.
The couple could face anywhere from six to 20 years in prison on the charges.
