(DULUTH, Ga.) - A high school senior won’t be graduating on time after he was suspended from school for giving his teacher a hug.
Surveillance video taken inside the Duluth, Ga. high school shows Sam McNair placing his arms around his teacher. He appears to hug her and the teacher is shown pushing him away.
According to the discipline report, the teacher claimed the teen's lips and cheek touched her neck. Meanwhile, McNair insists that he never kissed her.
His mother said the school should have notified her before he was suspended. Since he won't graduate on time, he's had to derail his plans for college, she said.
"He's a senior. He plays football and he's getting ready for lacrosse season. You're stripping him of the opportunity of even getting a full scholarship for athletics for college," April McNair said.
A representative from the school said McNair's past disciplinary record played a part in the decision. He has had previous suspensions, but not for sexual harassment.
