(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis police say a man was shot Sunday evening while apparently attempting to rob an armored Brinks truck.
IMPD officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of US 31 just before 5 p.m. Sunday for the report of an attempted robbery and a person shot.
Police arrived and found an unidentified man suffering from a gunshot wound. Callers to 911 dispatch said that someone was attempting to rob the Brinks truck in front of the Walmart store at that location.
Witnesses told officers that a man used pepper spray on the Brinks guard and attempted to take the money bag he was carrying.
The suspect was shot by the Brinks guard and attempted to run away, but was caught by a citizen and an off-duty police officer a short distance away.
The man was shot multiple times and was taken by EMS crews to a local hospital in serious condition.
