(INDIANAPOLIS)- A student was arrested and could be expelled after an administrator at Ben Davis High School found a gun inside their backpack.
It began with an argument between two students in a school hallway around 9:00 this morning.
Mary Lang, a spokeswoman for Wayne Township Schools, says the gun was discovered after the students were separated and taken to the dean's office. She says the student with the gun was turned over to police and that expulsion would be recommended. Lang did not release the age or gender of the student.
"This incident did not disrupt the school day at Ben Davis," Lang said in an email to reporters. "Staff responded immediately and investigated thoroughly. Security cameras aided administrators in this investigation and staff did an excellent job following the school's security protocols."
Ben Davis administrators plan to keep the final exam schedule that has been set.
Lang says a letter will be sent to parents asking them to talk to their children about reporting any suspicious activity to an adult. Wayne Township School Superintendent Jeff Butts is also sending a phone message to parents explaining what happened.
