(INDIANAPOLIS) - House Speaker Brian Bosma is taking a more public stance on the battle over whether to include a ban on same-sex marriage in the state’s constitution.
Bosma said last week he's willing to change the makeup of the House Judiciary Committee in order to advance the measure to the full House.
The announcement comes after months of publicly stating the measure would run its normal democratic course in the Statehouse.
Pressure to advance the measure has been building inside the Statehouse. Meetings of the House Republican Caucus have become increasingly tense, and Bosma's team last week circulated a poll showing public support for the amendment.
The more aggressive public approach could lead to a committee vote this week. It's the first step toward putting the amendment to voters in November.
