(LAPORTE) - A judge has denied bond for a northern Indiana man charged in the 1993 strangulation of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend.
The LaPorte County Herald-Argus reports Circuit Judge Thomas Alevizos on Thursday denied bond for 38-year-old Jason Tibbs of LaPorte. His attorneys, L. Scott Pejic and John Tompkins, had argued on Tuesday in favor of a bond, while Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Fronk opposed it.
Tibbs was arrested in August in the death of Rayna Rison, who had disappeared in March 1993 and her body was found a month later. He was arrested following a tip from an inmate several years earlier.
James Bruno, who owns several restaurants in LaPorte and hired Tibbs in 2008, testified he doesn't believe Tibbs is a threat.
Tibbs is being held at the LaPorte County Jail.
