(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officer Lance Labonte has been selected as the Operational District Six Officer of the Year.
Indiana Conservation Officers of Operational District Six proudly announce the nomination of ICO Lance Labonte as the District Officer of the Year. Operational District Six serves the south central portion of Indiana. District Six consists of Hancock, Marion, Hendricks, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan, Bartholomew, Brown and Monroe Counties.
Officer Labonte has been serving the citizens of Indiana since 2009 and is currently assigned Morgan County. Officer Labonte is now eligible to receive the ultimate award which can be bestowed upon a Conservation Officer by the Law Enforcement Division; the Pitzer Officer of the Year Award. The award is named after Indiana Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who was shot and killed in the line of duty.
Officer Labonte is very active in the department, serving as a K-9 handler (with K-9 Major) and air boat operator. He currently is the only Conservation Officer in Morgan County. This keeps Officer Labonte very busy, however he handles all the activity well. In addition to keeping the fishermen and hunters in line, Officer Labonte also teaches Hunter Education to all 7th grade students at Paul Hadley Middle School, as well as several other classes throughout the county during the year. Officer Labonte's experience as an airboat operator is invaluable in Morgan County. As a county frequented by high water, Officer Labonte has been called out at all hours and days of the year to help rescue high water stranded motorists and evacuate home owners from their flooded homes.
Officer Labonte is a tremendous asset to both the State of Indiana as well as the citizens of Morgan County. The rest of the Indiana Conservation Officers of District Six congratulate him and know that he is very deserving of this award.
