(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police arrested a 38-year-old Indianapolis man with battery and strangulation after investigators said he choked and kneed his daughter - who is 8 months pregnant - in the stomach.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, officers headed to a home on Manlove Avenue on a report of an assaulted pregnant young woman.
Officers said when they arrived, the young woman (17 years old) was screaming and yelling, "He put his hands on me."
IMPD said she told them she and her father, Diya Love, were having an argument when he got so angry that he grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her.
The woman said next, they both fell to the ground, which was when her father kneed her in the stomach. She said he also got on top of her with his knee, putting his full body weight on her stomach.
Officers said Love, on the other hand, told them his daughter had been throwing punches at him, and all he did was grab her to keep her from punching him. Love said he pulled her to the ground and held her there.
Another daughter in the home told investigators she did not see the exchange, but a son there said he heard the disturbance and when he looked into the room, he saw his dad on top of his sister.
IMPD said Love was placed under arrest on a preliminary Class-C felony charge of battery and strangulation.
