(INDIANAPOLIS) - A co-founder of the Indiana Pacers has died at age 83.
Chuck DeVoe and his brother John led the investment group which formed the Pacers as one of the original franchises of the ABA.
When John died the next year, Chuck became team president a year later, and held the job for eight years until the team's move to the NBA. He was in charge for the Pacers' three ABA championships.
DeVoe had been a standout basketball player at Indianapolis Park School and was All-Ivy League at Princeton, where he helped lead the Tigers to their first NCAA tournament berth in 1952.
DeVoe was president of the family electronics business and founded the Indianapolis Racquet Club. He was a top-ranked senior tennis player and a member of the Midwest Tennis Hall of Fame.
