(BROOKSBURG) - Two of Indiana’s wildlife areas are expanding thanks to money from the state’s Bicentennial Nature Trust that paid for land acquisitions.
The funding allowed the state Department of Natural Resources to add 77 acres to the Splinter Ridge Fish & Wildlife Area that's located in southeastern Indiana's Jefferson County.
That wildlife area harbors upland forests covering several steep hills and is located about two miles from the Ohio River near the community of Brooksburg.
The Game Bird Habitat Area in northwestern Indiana's Benton County, meanwhile, is expanding by 40 acres through the program. That habitat area about three miles south of Fowler features warm season grass plantings and five acres of wetlands.
DNR Director Cameron Clark says both properties are favorite destinations for hunters.
