(UNDATED) - There’s good news for the General Motors plant in Northeast Indiana.
A Compressed Natural Gas system for the Chevy Silverado was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, which makes the truck greener, and cheaper.
The Silverado Extended cab, built in Roanoke, now offers Compressed Natural Gas, or CNG. This is in addition to being able to use regular fuel.
Mike Jones is the product manager for GM's CNG products. He says using both regular gasoline and CNG together can carry the truck about 650 miles without having to fill up again.
The CNG on it's own will get about 200 miles of range, but he says the technology is best suited for fleets.
INDOT has 19 CNG heavy trucks between Indianapolis and Vincennes since 2012. The City of Indianapolis has tentative plans to make a CNG fleet purchase next year.
