(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis man was accused in a bizarre case of voyeurism at a local YMCA.
In November, RTV6 reported that a man had been spotted spying on little girls in the shower on several occasions at the Arthur Jordan YMCA branch in the 8400 block of Westfield Boulevard.
Police were called when a 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl reported that a man was peeking around a corner at them as they showered. One of the girls was naked when they told police the man gestured toward them with his finger over his mouth, as if to ask them to keep quiet about his presence. On the day police were called, both girls ran from the shower to alert staff when they spotted the man.
Officers said he grabbed the bathing suit and the underwear that the children had taken off as they entered the shower.
YMCA workers then told police they reviewed security video and found the same man had been spotted walking into that same shower area on at least eight occasions that month.
On Monday morning, police arrested 28-year-old Derrick Shane Moss for the encounters.
After being questioned by detectives, Moss was charged with a felony count of Theft/Receiving Stolen Property and three misdemeanor counts of Voyeurism. He posted bail after his arrest and was scheduled to face a judge on Thursday morning.
When RTV6 first reported on the police investigation in November, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis issued a written statement saying that it was thankful that no one was hurt in the encounters. The statement also said the man had been barred from entering any YMCA in the Indianapolis area.
The statement did not explain why Moss was not approached or reported to police in the earlier instances when his behavior was first noticed.
