(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metro Police say they’ve arrested a person in connection with the murder of pizza delivery driver Daniel Jaffke.
Police arrested 27-year-old Shawn Wilson of Indianapolis in the Jan. 31, 2014 murder.
IMPD says detectives tracked Wilson to a home in the 3200 block of Byrkit Street where he initially refused to surrender. He eventually gave up without further incident.
Chief Rick Hite said the arrest came about as a result of coordination between the IMPD Investigations Division, Operations Division, the Covert Operations Branch, and the community. Hite thanked those in the community who spoke up and offered information to the police that led to Wilson's arrest.
Wilson has been charged with Murder, Robbery, and Carrying a Handgun without a License. He will be taken to police headquarters for questioning and then to the APC for processing.
Jaffke had just made a delivery on the south side of Indianapolis nearly two weeks ago when he was shot while someone stole his vehicle, a black Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was recovered the next morning in the 1600 block of South East Street.
Jaffke, a 30-year-old local musician, died later that evening at Eskenazi Hospital.
His family put out a plea to find his killer last week.
"It feels that I wasn't there when he was dying. I wasn't there to hold his hand," said Donna Jaffke, Daniel's mother.
"This is just cold-blooded murder. That's all it is. I am not going to mince words with it, it's just cold-blooded," said the victim's father, Tom Jaffke.
