(INDIANAPOLIS) - A fire tragedy that claimed the lives of six Indianapolis family members is saving the lives of some Hoosiers among others.
Indianapolis Fire Department Spokesperson Rita Reith says organ donations from some of those killed in Saturday's fire are benefiting a 63-year-old Indiana woman and two 59-year-old Indiana men along with a four-year-old Ohio boy, an eight-month-old baby, a 17-year-old Minnesota girl, a one-year-old Michigan boy, a 61-year-old Ohio woman and 64-year-old Ohio man among dozens of others.
Six members of the Guerra family and two cats died in the blaze at the home. Initial toxicology reports indicate they all died of smoke inhalation.
Meantime, Reith confirms the home was broken into sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Guerra family relatives report that the family SUV was stolen from the property. IMPD officers found the SUV Wednesday night near 38th Street and Station Street.
No arrests have been made.
Reith says the cause of the fire remains "undetermined." They believe the fire was accidental in nature, but they haven't yet been able to pinpoint the ignition source.
