(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A committee of the Purdue Board of Trustees voted Thursday to award a posthumous degree to Andrew Boldt, the student killed in a Jan. 21 shooting.
The Purdue Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee voted unanimously Thursday to award Boldt a posthumous bachelor of electrical engineering degree.
The full board of trustees was expected to vote on the motion Friday.
Boldt, 21, was an undergraduate teaching assistant at Purdue, and had previously worked as an intern with John Deere. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Classmate's described Boldt as someone always willing to help with coursework and as being active on campus.
"He was a really smart kid; pretty sure he had like an awesome GPA. I never really knew anyone that didn't like him," friend Evan Stockrahm said.
Boldt was shot and killed on Jan. 21 in the basement of the Electrical Engineering Building on Purdue's main campus.
His alleged shooter, 23-year-old Cody Cousins, has been charged with murder and is being held at the Tippecanoe County Jail. Police have yet to offer a motive for the shooting.
