(UNDATED) - Carmel and Fishers have been ranked as the top two safest suburbs in America.
The survey, released by the real estate blog Movoto.com, was based in part on FBI crime statistics.
Out of 100 suburbs, Carmel ranked first overall for the lowest number of violent crimes per capita, second-safest in terms of property crimes per capita and had the second-lowest odds of being a victim of a crime, one in 97.
The survey says Carmel saw 819 total crimes in 2012, only 11 of which were violent and 808 of which were property-related. None of the violent crimes were murders and most were robberies.
"Our police department works hard to keep our neighborhoods safe so that our residents feel comfortably safe when they take an evening stroll or walk their dogs in the morning," said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. "But our citizens also play a major role through neighborhood watch programs and by getting to know and looking after those who live nearby."
Fishers ranked second on the list, followed by Parma, Ohio and Dublin, Ohio.
