(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A new report says GE Aviation is expected to build a new jet aircraft engine plant in Lafayette.
The governor's office is calling the event a major jobs announcement.
The official announcement is expected to come Wednesday, March 26 at the Purdue University Airport.
Gov. Mike Pence will join the event along with GE executives, according to officials with Pence's office. David Joyce, president and chief executive officer of GE Aviation, will also be in attendance.
Tippecanoe County Commissioner John Knochel confirmed the plant is coming, and that is what the announcement will be Wednesday. However, anything more than that he said he could not comment. Knochel said he has been sworn to secrecy until after the announcement is made.
GE Aviation is the world's largest jet engine manufacturer. This will be the global manufacturer's first-ever aviation production facility in Indiana.
