(UNDATED) - Now that Indiana’s preschool aid program has become law, the next question is where to find the money.
The law requires the state to fund the 10-million-dollar pilot program through federal grants or savings from other state programs. But it also requires one-to-five-million dollars to be raised from federal money or private donations.
The provision was inserted with an eye to both keeping the state's costs down, and getting corporations who lobbied for the bill to lend a hand with its implementation.
PNC Bank regional president Connie Bond Stuart says it's too soon to say what the bank will do, but notes PNC is wrapping up a 10-year, 350-million-dollar national commitment to preschool.
Lilly and Cummins joined PNC in lobbying for a preschool program, but they too say they'll have to review just what the law says.
Cummins spokesman Jon Mills says the company already supports the Busy Bee preschool near its Columbus headquarters.
