(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police arrested an Indianapolis man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a seven-month-old child this week.
Gary Shinnamon II, 30, was arrested on preliminary charges of Failure to Stop at an Accident Resulting in Death (Class C Felony) and two counts of Driving While License Suspended (Class C and D Felonies).
Shinnamon turned himself in to police Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened Tuesday night near I-65 and W. 38th Street on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The child was ejected from a child safety seat in the vehicle and landed near a guardrail next to the road. He died later at the hospital.
Witnesses at the scene and the deceased child's father helped police identify Shinnamon as the driver of the vehicle. Tips from the community also assisted detectives, police say.
