(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A SWAT situation in Jeffersonville has ended after the suspect killed himself, police say.
Police were called to the home in the 1700 block of Birchbark Lane near the intersection of Middle Road and Flintlock Drive in Jeffersonville around 8 a.m. That's when investigators say the suspect showed up at his ex-wife's home and refused to leave.
The woman called 911 and told police he had a gun and was making suicidal statements. Officers surrounded the home and began trying to negotiate with the suspect over the phone. Nearby houses were evacuated.
Around 11 a.m., the LMPD bomb squad was called to the scene after officers heard a gunshot from the home and could no longer reach the suspect. The bomb squad's robot was sent inside and video that the suspect was down.
Police forced their way into the home and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A rifle was recovered from the home.
There is no word the suspect's identity or whether he has a criminal past.
