(ALBION) - Indiana Conservation Officers searching for a person that had been reported missing found his body in Mud Lake in Chain O’ Lakes State Park on Monday.
43-year-old Douglas W. Haigwood of Kimmel was reported missing by a friend. The friend told officers Haigwood went ice fishing around 10 p.m. on Sunday and never returned.
When officers first went out, they found fishing gear on the ice but couldn't find Haigwood, according to the release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The temperatures are getting warmer, and the DNR issued the following reminder:
With recent warm temperatures, ice conditions are deteriorating rapidly on local lakes and ponds and becoming very dangerous. Conservation Officers encourage everyone to avoid the ice for any reason.
Conservation Officers were helped by the Albion Police Department, Orange Township Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana State Police, and Chain O' Lakes State Park employees.
