(MARION) - A jury has convicted a northeastern Indiana man of neglect charges in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter from burn injuries.
The Grant County jury reached the verdict against Donald Riddle of Marion on Wednesday after a seven-day trial in the February 2013 death of Arianna Carmack. The Chronicle-Tribune and WANE-TV report Riddle had been watching the girl who was found dead in her crib and covered in burns.
Riddle testified that he didn't know how Arianna suffered the burns. Medical experts testified she could have survived the burns to her head, chest and back if several hours hadn't passed before Riddle and the girl's mother sought medical treatment for her.
The girl's mother is awaiting trial on similar neglect charges.
