(EVANSVILLE) - A shooting involving an Evansville Police Officer sent one person to the hospital.
It happened late Friday night on South Green River Road at the Home Life Studios.
Police say an officer was patrolling near Boeke Road when a noticed a car without headlights on.
The officer tried to make a traffic stop but the driver sped away, going up to 100 miles per hour.
The driver headed towards the Lloyd Expressway and then to Green River Road.
Police say the officer lost sight of the car and radioed for help.
An assisting officer spotted the car and believed it was headed to Home Life Studios, so he followed.
After an exchange of words, police say the officer shot the driver in the torso. He was taken to a local hospital.
Per Evansville Police policy, the officer is on paid administrative leave for three days.
"It's important when we do these investigations to realize that what we are looking at is what was the officer's mindset when he made that decision, what was he perceiving, what type of threat did he feel he was facing in any situation where deadly force is being used," said Sgt. Jason Cullum, Evansville Police.
Because the investigation is ongoing, the name of the officer involved in the shooting is not being released but we're told he is a veteran of the force.
As for the suspect, police say he is someone known to law enforcement.
