(PULASKI CO.) - George and Angie Ferenc thought they were going to spend time relaxing at their weekend home along the Tippecanoe River.
WLFI reports that when they arrived at their Pulaski County residence, the relaxation turned into panic.
"It was like a dream. I was like, this cannot be happening," Angie Ferenc said.
George Ferenc said when he entered his home, he saw a woman sitting in the bathroom.
"I couldn't even make out who it was. I said, 'What are you doing here?' She said, 'Using the bathroom.'"
Ferenc said he asked the woman to leave. By that time, his wife Angie was in the home and noticed just how strange the situation had become.
"She was actually wearing my husbands clothes and my son's glasses," Angie Ferenc said.
Unlike most home invaders, this woman took her time to leave - even asking to use the couple's phone to call for a ride. Instead of calling for a ride, the Ferenc's called the Pulaski County Sheriff's office.
"This gal seemed pretty docile, even kind of polite," George Ferenc said.
"It wasn't like she was scared that she was in our home. It was almost like she didn't want to leave," Angie Ferenc said.
The intruder did leave, but sheriff's deputies were able to catch up to her wandering by a home just a few doors down. The sheriff's department arrested 45-year-old April Starr of Winamac and charged her with residential entry. Following her arrest, the Ferenc's went back into their home and realized the woman had been using their home like it was her own, even sleeping in their bed.
"We feel really violated," Angie Ferenc said.
As for that relaxing weekend, the couple spent it changing locks. And although they are relieved the situation is over, both said it could have been a lot worse.
"When you have family and children, you don't want them to have to walk into the same sort of situation because the next time, you might not get so lucky," Angie Ferenc said.
"Thankfully she wasn't crazy and didn't have a gun because you could be doing a different story," said George Ferenc.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department was not available for an on-camera interview Sunday, but said this isn't April Starr's first brush with the law. Starr was arrested earlier in early March for theft and possession of stolen property and theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. The sheriff's office said Starr is being held in the Pulaski County jail.
