(WEST LAFAYETTE) - The appointment of Purdue University President Mitch Daniels to the Commission on Presidential Debates has school officials pondering whether to bid for hosting one of the debates in 2016.
The former Indiana governor says his position on the commission's board of directors won't hold Purdue back from submitting a bid but he doesn't think his role will give the school any advantage.
The Journal & Courier reports Purdue officials considered seeking to host for a 2012 debate but didn't do so because of cost and other concerns.
Purdue convocations director Todd Wetzel says the school is in a different position now for considering pursuit of hosting a debate. He says no official discussions have been held yet. Bids won't be due from potential hosts until early 2015.
