(GARY) - Indiana state Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz came to Gary Wednesday to once again tell citizens that the department is not taking over Gary schools.
Ritz will work with Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt and her staff to build a stronger school system.
Ritz's staff declared Gary Community School Corporation a "high risk" district, paving the way to take over its federal funds. Ritz says the designation allows the district to "get rid of the bureaucracy and get kids what they need."
