(INDIANAPOLIS) - Sometimes an acquisition becomes the impetus for a special exhibit. That was the case with “The Power of Children: Making a Difference.”
The permanent exhibit at the Indianapolis Children's Museum features the contents of Ryan White's bedroom from his Cicero, Indiana home. The 13-year-old Hoosier youth contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion in the 1980's.
When Ryan was denied entry into public school because of fear surrounding the illness, he and his mom took his battle to federal court and won. Ryan died in 1990.
Ryan's mother, Jeanne White-Ginder, visits the museum bedroom on a regular basis to speak with families about her son and their family's journey. She will be at the museum this week.
