(INDIANAPOLIS_) - Two Indianapolis police officers were found dead on the city’s west side Thursday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide.
IMPD Chief Rick Hite says officers were called to a home. When they arrived, officers found Sgt. Ryan Anders and his ex-wife Kim Carmack dead inside the home.
Chief Hite says Carmack had filed for a protective order against Anders. Because of that protective order, Anders had been placed on administrative leave and his department-issued weapons were confiscated.
Chief Hite says detectives had taken measures to ensure both officers were safe, including using "technology" to keep in touch with Anders' whereabouts.
He says it appears Anders forced his way into Carmack's home before the incident occurred.
Carmack was a 20-year veteran of IMPD. Anders had been with the force for nine years.
The Fraternal Order of Police opened its headquarters Thursday night to provide counseling for IMPD members in need.
Chief Hite says the investigation is still ongoing.
