(UNDATED) - A long stretch of U-S 31 will close for construction tonight/Friday night.
INDOT spokesman Nathan Riggs says the contractor began preparing to close U.S. 31 between Old Meridian Street and 136th Street earlier this week by placing signs, striping the roadways and setting barrier walls. He says it will take some time to fully implement the closure.
Riggs says the closure will begin sometime after the evening rush hour, likely around 7:00. He says it will be a few hours before the closure is fully in place.
Drivers will see signs directing them to the proper detours. People can view maps and detours online by visiting us31closure.com. Drivers will also have access to businesses in the area by using local roads.
Riggs says the highway is expected to reopen before Thanksgiving of this year. However, he says there will still be work ongoing when that happens.
INDOT doesn't anticipate having all of the improvements open to traffic until the end of 2015.
