American Legion Commander Calls For VA Reform

Last updated on Tuesday, May 6, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The National Commander of the American Legion is calling for major changes in leadership at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington.

At American Legion Headquarters in Indianapolis Monday, Daniel Dellinger cited secret waiting lists, delayed care, misdiagnosis of ailments and falsification of medical records at VA Medical Centers across the nation. He calls it a "pattern of scandals" that have affected the entire VA health system.

He says "bureaucratic incompetence" is unacceptable. He says this has happened while senior executives who've overseen such projects have gotten positive performance reviews and bonuses.

Dellinger says there's no oversight and is calling for changes at the top. He says they're sending a request to the President to remove top leadership at the VA.
