(DANVILLE) - A merit board Tuesday night voted to fire two Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Jason and Teresa Woods, who are married, were accused of taking $250,000 dollars from a friend who asked them to hold it for him. The money then went missing after Jason Woods supposedly gave the money to a third party who was acting on the friend's behalf.
Hendricks County Sheriff Dave Galloway says the deputies didn't follow procedures. He says the couple never questioned where the money came from and when the money was reported missing, they never reported it to local authorities or to Galloway himself.
The case was brought to Galloway's attention because the friend to gave the couple the money hired a private investigator who is a former Marion County Sheriff's deputy. That man reported the case to Marion County Sheriff John Layton who notified Galloway.
Galloway says he's not happy about the situation but believes the merit board made the right decision.
The couple has 30 days to file an appeal.
