(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis City-County Council approved a proposal Monday night to help fix part of the pothole problem in the city.
The council voted 24-5 to give the Department of Public Works eight-million dollars for road repair and resurfacing.
Democratic Councilor At-Large Zach Adamson says this money won't fix everything. It's only one-third of the money needed to fix all of the pothole issues across the city.
Republican Councilor Jack Sandlin voted against the proposal because he felt politics had dictated which areas would receive the benefits of the money instead of the council going by the recommendations of DPW engineers.
Democratic Councilor Vernon Brown says they simply requested a fair distribution of resources so all taxpayers could see some benefit, something DPW Director Lori Miser agreed with.
Councilor Adamson says he hopes to see the rest of the city's roads addressed in the very near future. That may happen as a new proposal was introduced to the council Monday night which would give DPW an additional 16-million dollars to address the rest of the city's pothole issues.
The council's Public Works Committee will hear that proposal at its next meeting on May 22.
