(NORTH VERNON) - North Vernon police dog Heros helped arrest a man Saturday wanted on two felony warrants with a long list of charges.
According to the police dog's handler, Sgt. Andrew Richmond, Richmond tried to pull over a vehicle at about 10 til midnight on Saturday night, but the driver refused to stop. Instead, the driver eventually pulling into a driveway and then tried to run away.
Richmond set Heros after the driver, who tried to avoid the dog by jumping over the hoods of several vehicles. He got about 200 yards away before being captured by Heros.
The driver, 28-year-old Matthew Loper of North Vernon, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement by fleeing in a vehicle, a class D felony, and misdemeanor charges including resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot, possession of paraphernalia, and operating while never being licensed.
