(WEST LAFAYETTE) - The Purdue University panel, tasked with reviewing campus security after January’s shooting, has released its findings and recommendations.
A 25-page report is the result of the combined efforts of 26 people.

One weakness the panel identifies is that there was a lack of awareness in the procedures, showing that more communication and training is needed about Purdue's correct protocols for responding in a crisis. The committee states that none of their comments would have intercepted a targeted, one-on-one attack of this nature.
Several pages of discussion are devoted to doors and the possibility of making more doors have the ability to be locked from the inside. One drawback is that there are more than 41,000 doors estimated on campus, many would take $500 or more to update so they could be locked.
Another recommendation by the report is to automatically sign up all students, faculty and staff for the text alert system. This means making them opt out if they don't want them, as opposed to the current system which forces them to opt in.
President Mitch Daniels presented the report to the University in a forum Wednesday morning in the South Ballroom at the Memorial Union.
