(BURNS HARBOR, Ind.) - The Coast Guard says a Good Samaritan and one of its own vessels have rescued seven people from a sinking boat in a waterway in northwestern Indiana.
The Coast Guard says the 28-foot boat broadcast an emergency call about 4:30 p.m. Saturday saying it was taking on water near Burns Ditch, about 12 miles east of Gary. It asked other mariners to look for the troubled vessel while it sent a 25-foot boat to the area of the sinking craft.
The (Munster) Times reports an unidentified boater rescued five people while two others stayed with the troubled boat. However, it began to capsize, and the Coast Guard boat rescued the pair.
The Coast Guard said all passengers were accounted for with no reported injuries. It didn't identify those rescued.
