(SILVER LAKE) - A 4-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a flatbed truck when he ran out onto a road in northern Indiana.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Chad Hill says Logan Heeter of Claypool was struck on State Road 15 in front of a gas station in Silver Lake, about 40 miles west of Fort Wayne. A sheriff's department investigation found that 25-year-old Travis Woodcock of Louisville, Kentucky, was driving a truck southbound when he saw the boy in his path. Woodcock attempted to stop and swerve, but hit the boy.
Hill says the boy was with an adult family member when he darted out into the road for an unknown reason. The accident occurred 1:42 p.m. Wednesday.
The boy's death remains under investigation.
