(VIGO CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers arrested Roger A. Greathouse, age 62, of New Harmony, IN, on Wednesday, June 4th at his residence.
Greathouse was transported to the Vigo County Jail on the following charges; two counts of Corrupt Business Influence, a Class C felony, eight counts of Theft, a Class D felony, and one count of purchasing timber without being a licensed timber buyer a Class A misdemeanor.
The charges stemmed from an incident which began in 2012, where Greathouse was found to be purchasing timber illegally in Vigo County, IN. During the same incident, Greathouse failed to pay the landowner the agreed amount, which was in excess of $5,700.
Greathouse has a timber related charge currently pending in Vanderburgh County, IN. He also has a prior conviction for purchasing timber without a license in another Indiana court.
Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind the public of some important tips before selling timber:
1. Hire a consultant forester to represent you and mark and advertise your timber sale.
2. Always get several bids from different timber buyers.
3. Know and understand the fine details of the contract.
4. Never make an oral agreement.
5. Know how much you will be paid and the method of payment.
